A thing, on the internet
In an inevitable bout of adland acquisitions, at POKE we found ourselves compelled to move into a building with our new owners. To make our new space feel like home (and because we love hardware projects), a new lighting feature was commissioned to provide a focal and conversational point to our new office space.
The installation features 1,400 addressable RGB LEDs laid out in rows forming something like a very wide but short video screen. The lights can form patterns conjured up from a Processing app, which listens to events from a central server broadcasting events happening in the studio. We tried to make this into an extendable platform, that can accommodate new patterns and events as we think of them. This is achieved by creating a simple Node.js app that hosts a number web hooks for different stimuli in the office to trigger. For example PokeRadio.
